Aquarium Sponge Filter
Aquarium Sponge Filter
This sponge filter will work great in aquariums Up to 20 gallons!
Sponge filters work well as a pre-filter on the inlet of a canister filter. The sponge filters out a good deal of the larger particulate matter, which keeps the canister from clogging. It is far easier to clean or replace the sponge pre-filter often, rather than tearing apart the canister filter. You will see these types of filters in pet store aquarium because it is easier maintenance.
How Does It Work?
Sponge filter uses bubbles of air from an external air pump, or an integral water pump to draw water through the sponge.
What Maintenance Does It Require?
The sponge need to be rinsed about every 2 to 4 weeks. It’s helpful to wash the sponge gently with water from the fish tank instead of tap water.
It is good to replace the sponge after 3 to 6 months’ usage as the holes of sponge is gradually clogged by the tiny debris.
